The Symposium says the couches are ready again tomorrow. There is a daily limit on replies so the service stays available for everyone. It resets each day.
Can I play without the Symposium? Yes. All seventeen chapters play without it.
Are the quotations real? Yes. Every quoted line carries its source; lines marked "after" are close paraphrases of the cited place.
